The Artist
Evelyn Voss
Born in the misty hills of the Pacific Northwest, Evelyn Voss has always been obsessed with the spaces between things—the silence between notes, the shadow between trees, and the moment before a wave breaks.
Educated in Florence but radicalized by the modernists of New York, her work attempts to bridge the gap between classical technique and contemporary abstraction. She works primarily in oil and mixed media, often incorporating organic materials found during her long solitary walks.
"I do not paint to document the world," Voss famously said in her 2022 manifesto. "I paint to document the way the world feels when no one is looking at it."
